Position Overview
We are seeking an undergraduate intern to join our Research & Development (R&D) team at
the LA BioSpace, located at California State University - Los Angeles campus. This internship
provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated undergraduate student to gain hands-on
experience in biochemistry and polymer science research, contributing to projects that explore
novel biotechnological and sustainable materials applications.
The ideal candidate will be in their third year of study in Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry,
or Chemical Engineering, with a strong interest in biotechnology and materials science. They
will support laboratory experiments, data analysis, and process optimization efforts, working
closely with scientists and engineers on innovative projects.
Responsibilities
● Conduct laboratory experiments related to biochemistry and enzymatic
development.
● Assist in preparing and characterizing materials using various molecular biology and
biochemical techniques (e.g., cloning, protein expression, purification).
● Perform biochemical assays and test activity under various conditions.
● Maintain detailed experimental records and organize data for analysis and reporting.
● Participate in R&D team meetings, contributing insights and discussing research
progress.
● Assist with literature reviews and stay updated on relevant scientific advancements.
● Support general laboratory maintenance and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
● Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (ideally third-year) in Biochemistry,
Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering.
● Strong academic background in biochemistry.
● Interest in biotechnology, biomaterials, and sustainable materials development.
● Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques such as molecular cloning, protein
expression, or enzymatic assays is a plus.
● Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret experimental data.
● Detail-oriented, organized, and able to follow standard lab procedures and keep
detailed laboratory records.
● Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in a team-oriented research
environment.
Preferred Qualifications
● Prior experience in a research lab (academic or industrial).
● Familiarity with molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
● Knowledge of sustainable materials or enzyme engineering.

Position Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Graduate Intern to join our Research & Development
(R&D) team at the LA BioSpace, located at California State University - Los Angeles campus.
This position is ideal for a Ph.D. student (preferred) or qualified Master’s student
specializing in Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related fields. The
intern will play a critical role in advancing research efforts focused on biomaterials, enzymatic
processing, and sustainable polymer development.
This is a hands-on laboratory-based role where the intern will collaborate closely with
scientists and engineers to design experiments, analyze data, and contribute to cutting-edge
innovations in sustainable materials.
Responsibilities
● Design and execute laboratory experiments related to biochemical research.
● Conduct molecular cloning and protein expression experiments and enzyme-based
reactions.
● Utilize advanced analytical techniques, including FTIR, UV-Vis, HPLC, LC-MS and
SEM, to characterize biomaterials and polymers.
● Analyze experimental data and contribute to technical reports, presentations, and
potential publications.
● Stay current with the latest scientific literature and contribute to research discussions.
● Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols and best practices.
Qualifications & Skills
● Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program (preferred) or a Master’s program in
Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
● Strong research background in biochemistry or enzyme engineering.
● Ability to analyze complex data sets and interpret experimental results.
● Hands-on laboratory experience, with a strong understanding of scientific
methodologies and experimental design.
● Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in
a research-focused environment.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and
presentations.
Preferred Qualifications
● Prior industrial research experience or exposure to translational research.
● Experience with biodegradable polymers, enzymatic processing, or bio-based
materials.
● Familiarity with computational modeling for polymer science or enzyme engineering is
a plus.
